Design of effective kernels for spectroscopy and molecular transport: time-dependent current-density-functional theory.

Time-dependent current-density-functional theory (TDCDFT) provides an, in principle, exact scheme to calculate efficiently response functions for a very broad range of applications. However, the lack of approximations valid for a range of parameters met in experimental conditions has so far delayed its extensive use in inhomogeneous systems. On the other side, in many-body perturbation theory a...

All-electron Density Functional Theory and Time- Dependent Density Functional Theory with Finite Elements

The density functional theory (DFT) has become the workhorse in electronic structure calculations. Its success derives from the ability to produce accurate results with reasonable computational effort. The drawback of the DFT is that in principle it is bound to the ground-state properties. However, the time-dependent DFT (TDDFT) extends the applicatibility of the DFT to excited states. In recen...

All-electron density functional theory and time-dependent density functional theory with high-order finite elements.

We present for static density functional theory and time-dependent density functional theory calculations an all-electron method which employs high-order hierarchical finite-element bases. Our mesh generation scheme, in which structured atomic meshes are merged to an unstructured molecular mesh, allows a highly nonuniform discretization of the space. Thus it is possible to represent the core an...

Computational complexity of time-dependent density functional theory

Time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) is rapidly emerging as a premier method for solving dynamical many-body problems in physics and chemistry. The mathematical foundations of TDDFT are established through the formal existence of a fictitious non-interacting system (known as the Kohn–Sham system), which can reproduce the one-electron reduced probability density of the actual system....

Effective Maxwell Equations from Time-dependent Density Functional Theory

The behavior of interacting electrons in a perfect crystal under macroscopic external electric and magnetic fields is studied. Effective Maxwell equations for the macroscopic electric and magnetic fields are derived starting from time-dependent density functional theory. Effective permittivity and permeability coefficients are obtained.
